Avis Ione Blake

Avis Ione Blake died peacefully in her sleep on April 14, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on November 5, 1933, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, she was the cherished daughter of Selmer and Agnes Flaksrud. Mom's life was a testament to kindness and selflessness, values she imparted to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Mom was a devoted wife, having married the love of her life, Robert W. Blake, on June 26, 1954. Together, they created a warm and loving home in Rochester, where they raised their family. Their union blessed them with four wonderful children: Randy and his wife Cathy, Tim and his wife Lori, Jami, and his wife Jenni, and the late Robert Blake. Her love and nurturing spirit extended to her ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply.

Mom's life was anchored in her faith, as an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church for over six decades. Her presence was a constant source of strength and comfort to the congregation. Her dedication to her family was unparalleled; she embraced her role as a stay-at-home mom with devotion, ensuring her children always felt supported and loved. Her later years saw her contributing to the workforce at Gauthier Industries, from which she eventually retired.

In addition to her family and faith, Mom found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her heart was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones, whether at family gatherings or while enjoying a day at the casino with her dear friend, Rita. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds; she was always ready to lend a helping hand, often putting the needs of others before her own.

Avis was proceeded in death by her husband Robert, her son Robert, and her siblings George, Jerry, and Olive. Her legacy lives on through her surviving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whose lives she enriched with her wisdom, warmth, and endless love.

A celebration of Mom's life will be held at 11:00am on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, located at 1212 12th Ave NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Family, friends and all others whose lives have been touched by her are invited to honor her memory and the remarkable life she lived.

The Blake family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers who provided Mom with compassion and love during her final days. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Mom's life was a beautiful lesson in love, resilience, and grace. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide us all. Rest in peace, dear Mom. You will forever be in our hearts.
