Candace (Candi) Johnson, 77, died on April 29, 2025. She was born on December 16, 1947. After growing up in Aurelia, Iowa, Candi graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1970 with a BS degree in education. She taught her entire career of 34 years in Rochester schools. An outstanding teacher of middle school children, Candi dedicated her life to helping kids reach for the stars. She was a member of MEA & REA and served as president of REA twice.
Candi was preceded in death by her father and mother, Melvin and Dorothy Johnson; and her brother - in - law, Bruce Banister.
She is survived by her sister, Debbie Banister; Debbie's partner, Nancy Hammond; nephew, Scott Banister and his wife, Cyan and their two children.
Candi will be cremated and there will be no services.
To all whose lives were touched by her, please honor her unwavering loyalty to her vision of diversity, equity and inclusion by continuing that struggle so her journey on earth will not be forgotten.
