David John Larson, 63, of Felton, Minnesota, passed away on July 19, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on May 14, 1962, in Grand Forks, David lived a life full of resilience, laughter, and deep love for those closest to him.
David spent many years working as an over-the-road truck driver. Later in life, he pursued his passion for art and self-expression by becoming a tattoo artist, a craft he embraced with creativity and pride. He was an excellent chef and a skilled maintenance man, truly a jack-of-all-trades. A natural entrepreneur and a dependable handyman, he was always the first call when something broke, especially for his kids, who could count on him to show up with tools in hand and a solution ready.
David was a man of many passions. He loved riding his Harley, feeling the wind on his face and the freedom of the open road. Those rides were more than just a hobby; they were a way to clear his mind, feel alive, and embrace life on his own terms. He enjoyed hunting and participating in field trials. He also took great joy in cooking, canning, making wine, and gardening, always finding satisfaction in a well-tended garden or a home-cooked meal shared with loved ones.
Known for his sharp wit and offbeat sense of humor, David was a jokester through and through. He had a special talent for easing awkward moments with a perfectly timed dark joke or a dry remark that left everyone laughing, even when they didn't expect to. His humor, sometimes unexpected but always genuine, was his way of connecting and showing care. He could make people laugh when they needed it most and wasn't afraid to bring levity to serious moments. If he could pay someone to do something ridiculous just for the sake of a laugh, he absolutely would, and he'd enjoy every second of it.
One of David's greatest joys in life was being a grandfather. He delighted in spoiling his grandchildren, letting them eat cake for breakfast, taking them on trips to the park, going on imaginative "troll hunting" adventures, fishing together, and even letting them put stickers all over the house. He loved taking the kids on adventures down dirt roads, including the memorable day he let one of them drive his pickup, though when his head hit the windshield, he quickly learned not to yell "BRAKE!" Lessons were learned, and laughter was shared. Those small, magical moments are cherished memories that his family will carry forever.
He is survived by his beloved fiancée, Michelle Kawlewski, and his children: Brandon Larson, Shilo Larson (Travis) Nelson, Marissa (Stephon) Johnson, and Kylee (Alex) Meier. Michelle's children: Jesse (Destiny) Kjenstad, Keagan Kawlewski and Garrett Kjenstad. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Nevayah, Zaleayah, and Autumn, the brightest lights in his life. He also deeply loved his fur babies, Harper and Luna, who were constant companions and brought him comfort and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Almae Larson, and his late wife, Dawn Larson.
David lived boldly, loved deeply, and encouraged everyone around him to be unapologetically themselves. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 124 7th St, Felton, MN 56536.
