Dennis Bernard Schroeder, 76, of Ivanhoe, Minnesota, passed away on February 13, 2026, in Rochester, Minnesota, after a courageous battle with cancer. Dennis was born on May 14, 1949, in Hendricks, Minnesota, to William and Catherine Schroeder.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. On September 21, 1974, he married Marilyn van der Hagen, and they raised two children, Eric and Shannon. Dennis dedicated many years to the United States Postal Service, serving as Postmaster for Arco and Lynd, Minnesota. A talented and creative man, Dennis enjoyed welding, woodworking, farming, and music. He sang and played multiple instruments and performed with bands including the Sheiks, The Drifters, Solid Oak, and Private Sector. Known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and love of life, he formed special bonds with his pets and enjoyed cheering for the Minnesota Vikings.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, William and Catherine Schroeder, and siblings Gregory, Leonard, Marie, and Patrick Schroeder.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Schroeder; son, Eric Schroeder; daughter, Shannon Abernathy and her husband, Hoby Abernathy; granddaughter, Hailey Schroeder; grandson, Connor Schroeder; and sisters, Theresa Lacek and Dorothy Schroeder.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Ivanhoe Community Center. Time to be determined. Dennis will be remembered for his faith, creativity, and the laughter he brought to family and friends.
