Gordon Riekmann

Gordon G. Riekmann, age 91, passed peacefully, with family at his side, December 6th, 2025. He was born October 28th, 1934, and raised on a farm near Davis Corners, Cresco, IA. In 1960, Gordon married Lois Sandvik, his partner in life for 65 years. He was a proud Air Force veteran, and after graduating from Dunwoody Technical, began his career at IBM - the only company he ever worked for.

Though Gordon claimed few hobbies, his hands told another story. He was a skilled woodworker, building our garage out of a pile of lumber that was delivered to our driveway, as well as countless renovations to our home. Dad also cherished our annual camping trips, when he finally got to go fishing. He taught us and his grandkids, how to cast and set a hook. They are already passing that on to their own children.

Dad had a special bond with his grandson Justin, and the two spent many hours enjoying Hot Wheels, favorite videos, and time at McDonald's.

Dad's story wouldn't be complete without mentioning his fondness for Menards. He worked the rebate system like a master, and walking through Menards with Dad was like being with a local celebrity. Greetings of "Hey Gordy!" were received in many aisles.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Kristine (Steve) Molander; son, Glenn (Laurie) Riekmann; grandchildren, Katie Molander (Steve Day), Anna (Dan) Malone, Justin Riekmann; and great grandchildren, Cora Ann and Henrik Gordon.

Preceded in death by his parents, Adeline and Gustav, and sisters Ruth and Dorothy.

Special thanks to his caregivers at The Homestead, who provided compassionate care during Gordon's 16 months in hospice.

Funeral service will be held Friday, December 12th, at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rochester.

Burial will follow the service at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
