Gwendolyn Johnson, age 72, passed away Saturday August 2, 2025, in Rochester, Minnesota at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus.
Gwendolyn Mary Rueb was born September 13, 1952, in Rochester, MN to John and Katheryn (Enevold) Rueb. She grew up in Zumbrota and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1970. Gwendolyn was confirmed at United Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Immediately following high school, she enlisted in the Marine Corps and underwent her basic training at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Gwen was then transferred to a base in California and was stationed there until returning home in 1974. Soon after arriving back in Minnesota, she attained employment at Crenlo in Rochester and worked there for many years, until her retirement. Gwendolyn was united in marriage to Lloyd Johnson on July 2, 1977, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pine Island. After their marriage, they moved to the Johnson family farm in Kellogg, MN, where they raised their family and Gwen fulfilled her dream of becoming a mom. She had many interests and hobbies, including gardening, canning, cooking, watching movies and game shows, wine tasting, crossword puzzles and reading. Gwendolyn loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and always cherished the time spent with family. Gwen was a strong woman of faith believing in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her loved ones look forward to reuniting with her in heaven.
Gwen is survived by her husband, Lloyd; daughters, Kristina Johnson of Rochester and Lisa Johnson of Rochester; brothers, Daryl (Debra) Rueb of Pine Island and Gale Rueb of Zumbrota; sisters, Carolyn Jackson of Mazeppa and Cheri Strusz of Faribault; granddaughters, Emry and Andi, of South Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Michael and Andy; stepson, Lloyd Jr.
Services are being planned for a date this fall.
A Celebration of Life is planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, MN, with Pastor Ty Spenst and Pastor Eric Westlake officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
