Kathryn Lynn Hertel

Kathryn Hertel, age 59, passed away on August 30, 2026. Born on September 13, 1966. Kathryn was a woman of fierce independence, quick wit and a boundless, vibrant energy that left an indelible mark on those who truly knew her.

Kathryn's journey was not an easy one. Throughout her life she navigated profound challenges and personal hardships with quiet, stubborn resilience. Though she often kept her world at arm's length and guarded her independence fiercely, her life was defined by moments of remarkable empathy, deep care for others, and an enduring strength.

Her heart extended deeply for animals, with whom she shared a natural intuitive bond throughout her life, from a young child until the time she left this earth. Rats, raccoons, possums, and domestic animals were all opportunities for developing a close bond with.

Years later, when her mother developed Alzheimer's Disease, Kathryn stepped up as a caregiver for many years without hesitation.

Kathryn was a school bus driver and was proud of the work she did. She loved many of the people she worked with and students alike. She has numerous stories of the trials and tribulations of driving a school bus in today's world.

Though Kathryn was a private person who lived on her own terms, she remained connected to those who mattered most. She spent most of her life hundreds of miles away from her immediate family. Because of this, she "adopted" many family members along the way. The people she met and held close relationships with were as much her family as her true family.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her mother Lynn Bolyard; her father Gary Hertel; her grandparents and many beloved pets she had throughout the years. She is survived by her brother, Brandon Hertel (Lauri Emerson), Laurel (Johnny) Amador; extended family and many others she quietly impacted along the way.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any animal shelter in Kathryn's memory, honoring her lifelong love for animals, both wild and domestic.
