Kevin Lester Campbell passed away on Friday, September 18th, 2026 at St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Kevin was born on June 8, 1952 in Saginaw, Michigan. Most of his growing up years were spent in Sterling Heights, Michigan where he graduated from Stevenson High School.
He went on to become a Journeyman Electrician and Thermographer for General Motors, where he worked for 34 years until he retired in 2006. In his career, he was known for his hard work, excellent skills, and willingness to work long hours.
Kevin met Debbie (Deborah) Wilkinson while camping in Michigan over Labor Day of 1971, an activity they'd share together for many years. They were eventually married on October 6, 1973. They had two sons, Jason and Chad.
Kevin was an incisive and intelligent man, self-taught on a wide variety of subjects. He was often quiet and introverted, and sometimes bitingly funny, though he deeply loved the people closest to him. He was quietly religious, served his churches many times over the years, and regularly attended worship everywhere he lived.
He loved literature of all sorts - classic, science fiction, and fantasy. He was a lifelong learner, with deep curiosity about science, philosophy, religion, and history. Kevin was an avid reader, and lover of films and theater.
He spent his retirement years doting on his five grandchildren, who became the center of his attention. He enjoyed doing anything with them, especially building Legos and watching movies. When he wasn't with the kids, he enjoyed watching Detroit sports teams, especially his Tigers.
In his later years, his health required him to slow down, but he found ways to spend time with family and visit loved ones. After a period of illness, he died peacefully at 74, with his grandchildren lying in bed with him as he slept.
Kevin is survived by his wife (Debbie), sons (Jason and Chad), five grandchildren (Natalie, Ayla, Oren, Ryan, and Knox), and many beloved friends and family members.
