Marnie Wetzstein

Dr. Marnie Marie Wetzstein, age 52, passed away peacefully at her home in Rochester on Monday, December 22, 2025, following a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer.

Marnie was born on June 18, 1973, in Lancaster, Wisconsin, and was raised in Woodman by her loving parents, Charlene and Paul Hampton. From an early age, she showed compassion for others and a deep commitment to learning-qualities that shaped both her career and her life.

She graduated from Boscobel High School in 1991 and went on to earn her undergraduate degree in Nursing from Carroll University in 1995. Marnie later fulfilled a lifelong academic goal by earning her Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of North Dakota in 2018. In 2019, she joined the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science as an Assistant Professor of Nursing, where she was deeply respected for her knowledge, mentorship, and dedication.

On June 30, 2001, Marnie married the love of her life, Shaun Wetzstein, at the Plummer House in Rochester. Together they built a life centered on family. Marnie was a devoted wife and an incredibly proud mother to her two sons, Ryan and Tyler. She rarely missed a chance to cheer from the sidelines, or provide support as her boys competed on sports teams and school activities, something that brought her immense joy.

Marnie is survived by her husband, Shaun Wetzstein; her sons, Ryan and Tyler Wetzstein; her mother, Charlene Hampton; and her father, Paul Hampton.

A celebration of Marnie's life will be held at Maxon Family Cremation and Life Celebrations in Rochester, Minnesota, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
