Melvin Edward Baumgartner, age 91, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away on July 4, 2025. Melvin was born on May 22, 1934, in Waltham, Minnesota, to Edward and Luella Baumgartner. He spent most of his life farming, After farming, Melvin worked for a year at OMC and later spent 12 years in Research and Development at Hormel Foods in Austin, Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army between 1957 and 1958. On February 26, 1966, Melvin married Anne Therese Lawler, and together they built a life rooted in family and hard work. He was a kind and compassionate man who deeply valued family and friends. Melvin found joy in fishing and crafting with his hands, always taking pride in his work and the simple pleasures of life. He is survived by his wife, Anne; his children: Brad, Karin (Neuvirth), Bruce, Steven, and Amy; his sister, Kathleen Gullickson; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Duane Gullickson.
Melvin possessed a quiet strength, a dependable nature, and a wonderful sense of humor that touched many lives. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
The funeral service for Melvin will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11th, 2025 at Bethel Lutheran Church, in Rochester, with Pastor Michael Mandsager officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at St. Michaels Cemetery, in Waltham.
