Walter G. Berglund ("Wally"), age 79, of Corcoran, MN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary's Campus, after bravely facing challenges as a 15 year stroke survivor, and fighting a rare cancer, with strength and determination.

Wally was born on November 24, 1946, in Minneapolis, MN, to Walter F. Berglund and Dorothy V. (Zipoy) Berglund. He grew up in Northeast Minneapolis alongside his siblings, Wayne and Ginny, forming the foundation of a life rooted in family, resilience, and hard work.  Wally attended Edison High School in NE Minneapolis. The first to attend college in his family, Wally earned his degree in 1968 from the University of Minnesota and was on the university's swim team. He went on to build a successful 33 year career with Westwood Pharmaceuticals, where he held positions in sales, Director of Business Development, and ultimately Director of Marketing. His work took him and his family to Los Angeles, CA and Buffalo, NY, where he spent 19 years before they returned home to MN in 1997. He retired in January 2003, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, leadership, and genuine connection with colleagues. On April 19, 1969, Wally married the love of his life, Rose Prokes, in Minneapolis. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on love, partnership, and family, recently celebrating 57 years of marriage. Wally was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a deeply cherished grandfather. Wally gave generously of his time and heart to others. He served on the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House in Buffalo, and volunteered at the Minneapolis VA Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and First Tee. Whether helping families in need or supporting his community, Wally lived a life defined by kindness and service. He embraced life with enthusiasm-running six marathons, playing softball with colleagues, downhill skiing, and serving on ski patrol. He loved biking adventures with his Belleweather friends and enjoyed traveling, listening to audiobooks, and gathering with friends for happy hour. Above all, Wally found his greatest joy on the golf course and in the presence of his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness.

Wally is survived by his loving wife, Rose; his daughter Stephanie (John) of Rochester, NY; his son Jason (Amanda) of Orono, MN; and his beloved grandchildren Jack, Caroline, Samantha, and Harrison. He is also survived by his brother Wayne and sister Ginny, along with many others who will remember him for his dear friendship, loyalty, warmth, and sense of humor.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter F. and Dorothy V. Berglund, and his in-laws, Gordon J. and Helen V. Prokes.  Wally will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and deep love-a loyal friend, an amazing family man, and someone who faced life's challenges with courage and grace. Wally's legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the example he set every day.  A private Celebration of Life will be held for Wally. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be designated for rare cancer research at Mayo Clinic. Donations may be made online or mailed to:
