Wayne Myers, 81, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away on July 9, 2026, at St. Mary's hospital with his family by his side.
He was born to Merlin and Wanda Myers on September 20, 1944, in Canton, Illinois. He was drafted into the Army on June 14, 1965, and served in the Special Forces as a Green Beret. Dad received the Parachute Badge and National Defense Service Metal. Dad attended Southern Illinois and received his 2-year degree. Dad joined the IBEW Electrical Union as an Apprentice and later as a Journeyman Electrician. He was an electrician for 39 years before retiring on his 63rd birthday in 2007. Dad said retirement was the best life ever.
He married Beverley Applen on October 20, 1973. Later divorced. Wayne is survived by his son, Brad (Tammy) Myers; daughter, Kendra (Chris) Burshem; brothers, Jerry, Jim (Pat) Myers, Steve (Sharon) Myers; three grandsons, Isaac (Joslyn) Burshem, David (Hailey) Myers and Noah Burshem. Wayne also had the blessing of five bonus grandchildren, Kourtney (Shea) Kromminga, Paige (Ryan) Bluhm, Brynn (Donovon) Mancilman, Miranda (Matthew) Johnson and Colton (Makkena) McNallan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin and Wanda Myers and infant brothers Ralph and Russell Myers.
Dad was known for his love of trapshooting. It would not be uncommon for dad to leave at the drop of a hat and travel across the country and visit his three brothers and find a shoot to go to. Dad would also trap shoot in Dodge Center, Blooming Prairie, Austin and right here in Olmsted County at the gun club. Dad had countless friends whom he shot with on a weekly basis. Dad was an avid duck and goose hunter also. Dad loved sitting in the duck swap until it was time to go to either Buffalo or Kellogg for breakfast and of course, shoot some pool.
