Why the Thistle?
The thistle is a flowering plant that we felt represents life with grief. Because of the prickles, it represents the sting in life of losing someone we love. The purple flower at the top represents the beauty of our loved one’s life. The purple flower produces many seeds that are blown in the wind. This to us represents how the memory of a loved one lasts long after they have left this earth. Thistles are also very stubborn flowering plants. There is almost no way to fully eradicate thistles; just like there is truly no way to eradicate grief. We learn to live with it; some days are hard and some days are more joyful. The hope is that life with grief, even though is it prickly, can still have beauty.
